Sample Weekly Raw Menu

Achieving daily nutritional balance is a good concept, yet wolves or even people for that matter do not eat every meal as complete and balanced. When feeding a home prepared or raw diet, the goal is VARIETY and balance over time. A basic example of this would be a morning meal of RMBs (Raw Meaty Bones) and the evening meal of meat with organs (without bone). The following sample diets are quotes from Lew Olson’s book, Raw & Natural Nutrition for Dogs (pages 69-70). They are just several of the many healthy options raw fed dogs enjoy.

*Quantities are for a fifty-pound dog.

Sample Diet One
A.M. - 6 oz (3/4 cup) beef heart
2 oz (1/4 cup) beef kidney
1 Egg

P.M. - 8-12 oz (1-1.5 cups) chicken necks or backs

Sample Diet Two
A.M. - 6 oz (3/4 cup) of ground beef
2 oz (1/4 cup) of cottage cheese
2 oz (1/4 cup) of ground broccoli

P.M. - 8-12 oz (1-1.5 cups) pork ribs

Sample Diet Three
A.M. - 6 oz (3/4 cup) pork chunks or ground pork
2 oz (1/4 cup) pork liver
2 oz (1/4 cup) plain yogurt

P.M. - 8-12 oz (1-1.5 cups) turkey necks (cut into 3-4 sections)

Sample Diet Four
A.M. - 6 oz (1/2 cup) green tripe (unbleached)
4 oz (1/2 cup) beef kidney

P.M. - 8-12 oz (1-1.5 cups) chicken wings

*Dogs who are new to raw feeding should start by eating one protein source for a week or two before adding another meat. For instance feed chicken products until tolerated well, then add beef to your dogs diet for the next 1-2 weeks. By doing so gradually within 6-8 weeks, your dog will have a wide variety of meat meals from which to choose.
